JSTI | TestAmerica Expert Dr. Mark Bruce to Present Webinar on Hydrocarbon Gases in Water Samples

TestAmerica Laboratories, the leader in environmental testing, is pleased to announce the next installment in their Ask the Expert Webinar series. TestAmerica Expert, Dr. Mark Bruce, along with guest speaker David Gratson from Environmental Standards, Inc. (ESI), will present a live webinar entitled Analysis of Hydrocarbon Gases in Water, on Thursday, March 8 at 1:30 PM EST.
The hour-long webinar will focus on a number of topics related to the identification and analysis of dissolved gas analytes in ground water samples associated with hydraulic fracturing. The presenters will offer a general overview of the current approaches and analyses available for dissolved gas analysis, as well as review ESI’s performance report from a study of fifteen laboratories performing dissolved gas analyses. ESI’s study sought to review and understand the accuracy and reproducibility of dissolved gas analysis in ground water, which is an especially critical aspect when comparing pre-drill and post-completion data. Finally, Dr. Bruce and Mr. Gratson will provide in depth information on TestAmerica’s approach to dissolved gas analysis, which include water phase calibration standards for improved accuracy of final results.
Dr. Mark Bruce has been in the analytical chemistry industry for more than 35 years, and currently serves as the Corporate Technical Director at TestAmerica. Throughout his career, Dr. Bruce has gained valuable experience in the fields of method development and modification for both organic and inorganic analyses, as well as the development of custom cleanup methods to address sample specific interferences. He is an active member of the Marcellus Shale Coalition Dissolved Gas Analysis inter-lab study team, as well as the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) committee, and The American Chemical Society. Dr. Bruce earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Mount Union, and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati.
David Gratson, Senior Technical Chemist at Environmental Standards, Inc., has been in the environmental industry for nearly 35 years, holding various Chemist and Project Manager positions. Mr. Gratson is a Certified Environmental Analytical Chemist through the National Registry of Certified Chemists. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Allegheny College, and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
