JSTI|EPTISA Will Provide Road Safety Assessment for Ethiopia

26-Apr-2019
On March 6, the Ethiopian Minister of Transport and the representative of EPTISA's office in Ethiopia signed a road safety assessment contract under the accompaniment of the commercial attache of the Embassy of Spain to Ethiopia. This project will focus on the provision of consulting services for the road safety of key parts of the asphalt pavement network in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is faced with enormous challenges in road safety. According to statistics, between 2008 and 2016, the casualties and serious injuries caused by traffic accidents increased by 7.1%. In 2018, 2,161 people were killed and 4,352 were seriously injured. As a result, the government decided to take urgent measures to actively address this intractable issue.

As a multinational company with more than 60 years of experience in such fields as engineering consulting, information technology and government projects, EPTISA has provided consulting on road safety technology for the national road network of Albania as well as high-level consulting on environmental protection for Turkey, and it has undertook various projects such as the Tajikistan-Uzbekistan border restoration project in Dushanbe. Carefully selected as the contractor by the Ethiopian government, EPTISA designed a project funded by the World Bank to assess road safety in key parts of the Ethiopian road network.

This project consists of three main parts, specifically including, firstly, assessing the road safety and identify major issues on the 2,000 km road network and the Addis Ababa – Adama Expressway; secondly, giving priority to two trial sections with a total length of approximately 500 km and implement detailed road safety monitoring; finally, presenting the best knowledge and technology on road safety in the world to relevant Ethiopian departments.
