The 11th PRC-USA Bridge Engineering Workshop was Held in Chengdu

 The 11th PRC-USA Bridge Engineering Workshop, sponsored by the expert committee of PRC Transport Ministry and US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and co-hosted by CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd, was held from November 5 to 7, 2014 in Chengdu, China.

  More than 30 bridge experts from China and US met in Chengdu and had extensive, in-depth exchanges on the topics of “Bridge Design and Safety”, “Bridge Anti-seismic and Maintenance”, “Bridge Inspection and Repair” and “Study on the Long-term Performance of Bridge Structure” etc. The participants include Zhou Haitao, chief engineer of Transport Ministry, Zhao Junli, deputy chief engineer of CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd, Phillip Yen, chief engineer of FHWA Bridge Structural Dynamics Office, Myint Lwin, former director of FHWA Bridge Technology Office, and Manchung Tang, member of US National Academy of Engineering, foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and board chairman & technical supervisor of TYLI International.

  JSTI Deputy Chief Engineer Zhang Yufeng and Dr. Han Yixuan attended this workshop at invitation. In the meeting, Dr. Han gave a technical report on “Brief Introduction of Execution Plan of Long Term Bridge Performance Program of JiangSu Province”and had extensive, in-depth discussion with both Chinese and US bridge experts on such technical problems as bridge NDT technology, health monitoring technology & research trends, and long-term performance study.

  This workshop focused on the discussion and exchanges on the multi-hazard design, safety and durability, rapid construction and long-term performance testing (monitoring) of highway bridges in both China and US, in combination with the current general problems of bridge engineering.

  After meeting, the delegation visited Miaoziping Bridge and Lianshancun Bridge of 213 National Highway, part of Wenchuan earthquake ruins and the third-ring road construction project of Chengdu. (Reported by Han Yixuan)
