China's transportation industry is building a “smooth, safe, efficient and green” transportation system. To meet this demand, the energy-saving and environmental-friendly asphalt pavement has become a hot technology among road workers. Warm mix asphalt is one of these technologies. In order to have a better understanding of the foamed warm mix asphalt technology, Dr. David E. Newcomb, senior research fellow of US Texas Institute of Transportation Science, was invited to give a detailed introduction to the application of foaming technology in warm mix asphalt. Several domestic experts of foamed warm mix asphalt technology also attended this seminar at invitation.
This seminar takes the form of combining theoretical explanation with technical exchanges and interaction. The topics include foaming principle of asphalt, foaming equipment, measurement of the foaming process of cementing material, variables affecting the foaming properties of asphalt, and effect of foaming technology on the properties of cementing material and asphalt mixture. The participants also exchanged views on the current situation, technical characteristics, and equipment R&D of China's foamed warm mix asphalt technology, and proposed suggestions for the development of China's foamed warm mix asphalt technology.
Since its establishment, the National Engineering Lab for New Road Material has successfully held more than 10 workshops and training meetings at home and abroad, including “ISAP International Symposium on Heavy-duty Asphalt Pavement & Bridge Deck Pavement”, “the 1st Technical Seminar on New Road Material Study & Application & Symposium on Rubber Asphalt Technology”, “Workshop on the Latest Progress in the Development of Preventive Maintenance Technology of Asphalt Pavement in US” and “Technical Seminar on Foamed Warm Mix Asphalt” etc. (Reported by An Fengwei)
